Like everyone understands that the word “homophobia” means prejudice against homosexual people, despite the “homo” part only meaning “same” when it is without the “-sexual” part. Nobody thinks it means fear of things that are the same
That has literally always been the definition. This is like saying that an antibiotic is something that kills every living thing. Antisemitism and Semitic are just two different words, and have different meanings. This is how language works.
