Well, that was an ongoing process already. I think in the hypothetical where the protests never happened, we’d probably be even further along in that way.
I agree they’re putting out feelers but I don’t think they’ll get traction. I didn’t find anyone calling for direct US intervention, mainly just indirect support for Israel. Who was saying that?
I also found some leaders explicitly saying the US should not get involved. I guess it feels a lot different from the post-9/11 years when it felt like only political radicals were opposed to war, and basically every mainstream voice was cheering it on. So that’s why I’m a bit more optimistic.
Are they? What are they saying regarding Iran?
Not overreacting. Driving is extremely dangerous for yourself and others around you, not to mention environmentally destructive. And an increasing number of people are choosing to live a car-free lifestyle for these reasons.
If you live in an area where alternatives like walking, biking, or transit are viable, then I’d definitely consider it. If not, then you may not have a choice. But consider whether you can move to an area where you can avoid driving. Even as an experienced and competent driver, as I’ve gradually decreased the frequency I drive, my quality of life has improved a lot.
Biking especially is increasingly viable in many cities and even suburbs nowadays. However, if you’re forced to share the road with heavy cars and trucks it could be dangerous if you don’t have good situational awareness. But that is something you may be able to develop with practice. As someone who is a regular urban cyclist I feel my awareness and skills have dramatically improved with time.
I’m aware and yeah it should be abolished but I still wouldn’t say we have the draft currently. It could be brought back though.
Thankfully the sentiment in the US recently has been fairly anti-war so I am not sure they could get away with it barring some kind of extreme events.
Contextually I thought you were just calling all Israelis settlers. All Israelis (and all Iranians) will be threatened by a war between their countries. But OK, if that’s not what you meant then what I said doesn’t apply. Just a weird thing to focus on since it’s unlikely Iran would specifically target settlers.
So what you’re telling me is if you lived in Israel you’d be pro-genocide lol. You’re using the exact same logic as a transparent fig leaf for your anger and hatred, just like many Israelis do against Palestinians.
You can’t make blanket statements about people based on where they live or what family they were born to. They’re all different individuals with different beliefs and backgrounds. Not all Israelis support the violence, not all of them are settlers, many were born there. Some even lived there for generations. This is nonsense.
I think it did more than nothing but I wouldn’t consider it a full success. Many police departments reformed their policies and a lot of cops did quiet quitting which meant less policing for a while. But yeah those are small gains I’d say.
No uninvolved civilians huh? Where have I heard that before…
Didn’t we hit 3.5% with the 2020 protests in the US?
Helps if you have a billion dollars.
We don’t have the draft though. Not sure what you mean.
I guess but it sucks for civilians caught in the crossfire. Can’t we just have a Khamenei/Bibi cage fight instead?
And then we just don’t let the winner out of the cage.
State violence perpetrated by California or our cities is good but it’s a shocking violation of human rights when the feds do it!
No because they’re quite literally illegal in most neighborhoods. This is starting to change but developers don’t want to do anything different or innovative so they’re still rolling out the same moronic plans we have for the past however many decades.
This was my plan until I learned to reduce my driving by like 90% and now it seems less pressing.
This is a classic and highly effective civil resistance strategy. Drones can simply be shot down. But doing the same to a ship full of world-famous peace activists will be much more politically costly to Israel.
I don’t think the expectation is they will get through. The goal is to create a scandal that will increase international attention and pressure to make them stop.
If they hurt Greta I predict there will be a lot of backlash due to her fame and popularity.
Yeah that’s true.
