Typical isn’t relevant in a corporate controlled image which they push automatic updates to. Whatever “typical” was can be changed with the next update push.
They’re unpredictable. Every employee is a potential future lawsuit, they can get injured, sexually harassed, all kinds of things - AI doesn’t press lawsuits against the company, yet.
people that are in charge of them are usually the dumbest people ever.
I think that’s actively encouraged by management in some areas: put the dumbest people in charge to make the most irritating frustrating system possible. It’s a feature of the system.
Some of the most irritating systems I have interacted with (government disability benefits administration) actually require “press 1 for X, press 2 for y” and if you have your phone on speaker, the system won’t recognize the touch tones, you have to do them without speakerphone.
When they’ve got a cell full of detainees and they’re deciding who ICE is going to ship to “advanced processing” who do you think goes to the front of that line? I’m guessing it’s the “undocumented,” regardless of whatever laws you’re focused on.
There’s legal requirements, then there’s practical dealings with officers in the field. Seems to me that these days if you’re “undocumented” you’re asking to be sent to processing which can be a quick trip to a center somewhere across the country, if that’s the mood they’re in. After you get out you can try to sue them, maybe even win, but how long before you collect your damages?
And get a burner.
maybe one to strap on your forehead
They make much more practical chest straps for things like GoPros - you can sort of forget it’s there and just let it capture everything. I did that while white-water rafting and it worked very well.
Leica digital or chemical film?
Faraday bags work, period, if they are made and used properly. If there’s no RF getting in or out, there’s no GPS and no checking in with the towers. Inertial navigation doesn’t work worth a damn after a little while, and it won’t work at all when powered down. Obviously? black tape over the camera lenses unless you’re ready to share what they’re seeing, and the microphones can listen very well too, it is a phone after all, so bear that in mind.
If your “blue leaders” are any good, they enforce psych profiles on police recruitment that ensures you don’t have a force full of racist authoritarian law in their own hands radicals, at least for the forces they control - feds may be a different story.
When I shut the lid on my work computer I assumed it was “off” or at least inactive. My home network showed me it was continuing to “check in” throughout the night.
Movement data shows that you scratch your fleas a lot, you should do something about that.
Phone menu trees have their place, they can improve customer service - if they are implemented well, meaning: sparingly - just where they work well.
Same for AI, a simple: “would you like to try our AI common answers service while you wait for your customer service rep to become available, you won’t lose your place in line?” can dramatically improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Of course, there’s no substitute for having people who actually respond. I’m dealing with a business right now that seems to check their e-mails and answer their phones about once per month - that’s approaching criminal negligence, or at least grounds for a CC charge-back.
Do you make decisions, or are you just 1300 grams of synapses responding to stimuli?
I say it’s simply easier to recognize something when you’ve seen more examples of it.
If you’re training an image discriminator on apples, bananas, oranges, pears and penises, it will inevitably do better overall if 10-30% of the images it trains on are penises, rather than 0.01% penises - even if in operation it is only expected to encounter dick pics very rarely.
And it rarely works in scientific fields right away - usually an established wrong idea needs to be overwhelmed with serious proof before scientists start to consider that what they “know” might be wrong.
Toxicity is everywhere, you can’t recognize that “Drill baby drill” has sexual connotations if you’ve never been exposed to sexual double entendre like that before.
Is it just me that things this seems like a no-brainer?
Yes, and no. When raising our children, my wife prefers the “ban the bad stuff” approach. I don’t encourage exposure to bad stuff, but when my kid wants to buy and watch a raunchy movie, instead of yelling “NO!” and making him put it back, I let him buy it and we watch it, together, pausing to explain the unrealistic and awful parts and explain how imitating these things in real life can cause problems for you.
I’m assuming the light/dark filter gets applied before they’re ever incarcerated, but yeah, plenty of pre-judgement goes on at all stages of police decision making.
