ryathal@sh.itjust.worksto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Did MLK Jr ever advocate some form of violence?9·7 days agoHe didn’t preach violence, but he did have armed members during marches. There was enough implication of force to keep the police in relative check during marches.
ryathal@sh.itjust.worksto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Does noise from different nearby sources 'add up'? Or do the different sources cancel each other out? In any case, please provide a formula and an example3·16 days agoThere’s a lot of things going with sound, but in general sound1 + sound2 is louder. You may not always perceive that, and if one of them is significantly louder, it’s not a significant difference. Active noise cancelling uses sound to make other sounds disappear, but this is just a trick, the pressure is still there (it’s why prolonged use of active noise cancelling can be bad for you).
When it comes to decibels, dB, it’s a logarithmic unit so adding them isn’t straightforward. You need to do logarithmic addition, so 5dB + 5dB = 8dB, and 90dB + 90dB = 93dB, but 70dB + 90dB = 90dB.
ryathal@sh.itjust.worksto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•how did you and your partner change after having a baby?2·20 days agoThere are things you have to be prepared for and you will snap at each other at least once, your life will change and there are good and bad things about it. There are a lot of things you can do to help. Most things come down to proper planning and sticking to a rigid schedule for baby while being flexible about what each parent does. As a father be prepared to do 99% of of household things like cooking, shopping, cleaning, and laundry for about the first month.
- start sleep training early, like week 2 or 3. The earlier you start establishing a schedule the faster it works. Things get vastly easier if they sleep alone through even part of the night.
- get mom in post partum therapy right away, it’s more of a when not an if that she will experience some. Most experience mild symptoms, but a mom that gets even more fatigued and snippy makes everything more difficult.
- your free time will drastically reduce, this can be a big source of problems. Especially in the first few months. You can still do things, and you occasionally should, leaving the house is good for everyone, just be flexible with it. Also find something you can do in short bursts for relaxation.
Taxing consumer level fuel in the name of climate change is performance art. It’s not a major factor and places a burden on those least able to handle it.
