I mean, leasing is a thing a lot of people do, a lot of people lie about owning things they are actually renting, or pretending they outright own something they’re still paying the note on each month…
…, and also, various automakers are now actually beginning to explore the concept of cars as an actual subscription service:
Stupid expensive per month, but you can switch out a convertible in the summer for an SUV in the winter, comes with benefits and insurance and maintenance and other services and what not all baked in.
Can be, yeah, but the point I’m going toward is the the ‘keeping up with the joneses’ effect often leads people to just lie about what they own vs owe.
I’m going to buy a new/used car this decade so I can finally switch to an EV
…but not until my last new car completely dies beyond what my lifetime warranty on it can fix…ok it might be longer than a decade because it’s already going on year 13 lmao
I mean… I’m not buying a new vehicle this decade if I can avoid it.
I feel like some people I know are on some kind of car subscription service where they get a new car every month.

Sorta an evolution of car rentals.
Leasing can be a lot more financially sound than owning in many cases, just depends on the situation.

This was my plan until I learned to reduce my driving by like 90% and now it seems less pressing.
The real solution is always in the comments.
