They are information sponges. They won’t understand everything, but they will catch on to at least some things. Don’t treat them like idiots. Don’t be unfair. Don’t be arbitrary.

Because it’s fresh in mind from a personal conversation, e.g., if a parents treats one child better than the other, the other absolutely sees it and she will remember. Reactions may vary, but she sees it and will make future choices with that information in mind.

They’re not asking “why do you want a job” they’re asking “why do you want this job”.

There are other points during an interview process to lay out your pay expectations.

And even more broadly what happens to the people who do lose jobs to AI? Safety nets are being actively burned down. Just saying “people are scared of new tech” ignores that AI will lead to a shift that we are not prepared for and people will suffer from it. It’s way bigger than a handful of new tech tools in a vacuum.

This feels a bit like PTA-driven panic about kids eating Tide Pods when like one person did it. Or razor blades in Halloween candy. Or kids making toilet hooch with their juice boxes. Or the choking game sweeping playgrounds.

Lol, I’d settle for communication, social skills, and some awareness of professional etiquette if one doesn’t want to go as far as nepotism and cronyism.

I’m probably in a bit of a bubble but I work with too many engineers who don’t like that they have to work with other people. If a super STEM person ever wonders how “less smart but friendly with the boss” people advance further, introspect a bit on whether anyone else can understand your big brain thoughts or if they die as soon as they leave your mouth.

Making friends and doing clubs in college is a good way to learn to be smart and to make sure you can adequately communicate your smart ideas. Goes with the theme of “don’t stress GPA, be well-rounded”.

I don’t because I don’t have the necessary depth of skill.

But I don’t say I “blindly” trust anyone who says they’re FOSS. I read reviews, I do what I can to understand who is behind the project. I try to use software (FOSS or otherwise) in a way that minimizes impact to my system as a whole if something goes south. While I can’t audit code meaningfully, I can setup unique credentials for everything and use good network management practices and other things to create firebreaks.

2. my advice is to slow your roll and focus on transitioning to college successfully, meaning establishing good study habits (they will have to change from high school), staying healthy during the time that is often the first extended time away from parent(s) (food, sleep, hygiene, keeping the drugs/booze under control, proper response to inevitably getting sick, mental health), and finally, enjoy the experience by making friends and trying new activities.

I have never once thought about what I could have done to earn another point on my GPA. I have thought a lot about the friends I made and the things I got to experience.

Is that really the message you got? It’s worded differently than what I see in mine.

I extend more trust if I see consistent stories across multiple sources. If one is reporting something and no one else is, I question why.

Also it’s a leap to say top-down privacy invading laws are the way the state or federal government should handle it instead of the concerned parent monitoring computer usage. There’s so many free and subscription based parental control tools out there. Comprehensive sex education would be a potential alternate way for the state to support parents and teens to educate them on porn consumption and safe internet usage.

FYI, NCOSE, the group joining (likely funding) the lawsuit, is against comprehensive sex education.
